Effective
The Provenance Catalogue aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at level AA. This page says what is measured, what works, and what does not yet.
What is measured
Before each release every kind of page (the front page, a search, a house, a piece, the method, the agent page and these legal pages) is checked with axe-core against the WCAG 2.1 AA rules at phone and desktop widths, and checked again for tap-target size and text size on three phone and tablet sizes. Body text measures 15.4 to 1 against its ground in the light theme and 15.9 to 1 in the dark; the quieter grey text measures 7.2 to 1 and 9.0 to 1.
What works
Every control is reachable from the keyboard, with a visible focus ring and a link that skips straight to the catalogue. Search results are announced in a status line that screen readers read out. Text fields use 16-pixel type, so phones do not zoom on focus. The one moving thing on the site, a loading line, stops when your system asks for reduced motion. The site follows your light or dark setting, and every page reads in full without JavaScript except the search, which says so.
Where it falls short
A picture's text alternative is its title and creator, not a description of the picture: the houses' records do not describe their images, and we will not invent descriptions. Pictures come from other hosts and sometimes fail to load; the card then says so in words. In the method page's table the house names are ordinary text links, smaller than a 44-pixel tap target. A Buy door leads to the house's own site, whose accessibility is the house's.
